Screens II is a site specific installation constituted of eight interactive plexiglass sculptures. It is meant to question the idea of alienation remedied through the power of the internet. The discussion that this piece calls on to is based around the contemporary set of values and priorities which arise from our heavy reliance on technology. The extensions of our communication capabilities through cell phones and computers became an every day necessity. Our dependability on these devices is caused by the change in time and space. With the disadvantageous speed of our bodies comparing to the pace of modern life, we feed our social cravings through new ways of communication, i.e. texting, chatting, blogging, facebook messaging, skyping, etc. All of these are impersonal ways to connect, neglecting the 'face-to-face' mode of interaction. Screens II mimics the cold, detached nature of the 21st century relationships. It puts emphasis on the idea of quantity over quality which is the rule of thumb behind networking. The main interaction harnessed from the piece is the collective turning on and off of the LEDs panels embedded within the sculpture. The full potential of the piece is only reached when the viewers fully surround all sides of the sculpture.
