A series of eleven drawings inspired by Anita Desai's anthology, 'Games at Twilight', for Tom Mill's Foundation Class (2015) Final.
Reading is rarely an isolated act; the relationship of the reader and the narrative bound by a trajectory of association, the reader interpreting the plot, setting and character's through his/her's own social setting.
Desai's stories evokes the colours, surfaces, sounds and heat of urban India. The series is however, not a literal representation of either a particular scene or story. Rather the drawings aim to transcend the literal, journeying the anthology as a whole, exploring (unexpected) relations between stories and finding a personal resonance by encountering Desai's spaces, colours and emotions with ones visited in memory and physicality. The series plays on the periphery of acceptance and subversion of the text.
