Youth Violence Awareness: Mind Your Fingerprints

This project is the product of indepth research on youth violence in the UK that cover the causes and influences that lead to violent behavior, psychology of aggresive behavior in children, the organisations that are tackling this issue as well as existing attempts to deal with this issue.
This research concluded that prevention is the best solution for this problem as most correctional efforts fail to match the effectiveness of simply introducing a condusive environment and atmosphere during the development stage of a child's life when his character and behavior are shaped.
The main goal of this project us to focus on stoping this problem at its roots rather than to address the consequenses as there are already plenty of correctional efforts and campaigns in place. The resulting products are designed as a component of an awareness campaign on youth violence.
The booklet, together with other promotional materials are developed to be showcased in hospitals where parents birth their children and return to for their childrens medical needs. The location is chosen because of the high traffic of young parents there as they represent the correct target audience.
The booklet is aimed to illustrate in graphic novel form, information about aspects of parents' behavior that affect the child and the possible consequenses of these effects on a child's character development.
"Mind your fingerprints" is a single minded proposition of the campaign that suggests in an unconventional way how the everyday actions and interactions of struggling parents at home can affect the development of their child. The main message behind this project is "your children's future is in your hands". Playing with this phrase throughout the whole booklet, a series of illustrations helps to emphasise both the direct and subconcious influence that parents have on their kids. As the story
develops, the reader sees the inevitable effects that all these interactions have on the child, presented with fingerprint marks that appear on child's hands.
The background images in the booklet are carefully chosen to represent a potential house of an actual target audience. There are no faces in the book, so that everyone could relate to it, except from the cover where a child’s face can be seen, to illustrate the main message.
A toy as a part of a presentation (in the real launch there would be several toys) is meant to trigger children interest in the hospitals, so that they would go to the place where the poster, booklets and flyers are, to help parents notice the message. Flyers are mainly meant to lead people to the website where they can find useful information about child nurturing and help. The poster is created to raise an interest in parents and lead them into reading the booklet.
