HIGH FIVE - roomy garden bench, very comfortable

Furniture
HIGH FIVE
High Five is an exceptional garden bench, originally commissioned by a family with three teenage daughters. They wanted a well-designed wooden bench that would be large enough to comfortably fit all five of them - not stiffly in a row, but in a relaxed and cosy manner, so one could stretch across the seat like a cat and enjoy a good book, while another sat up with a cup of tea and a laptop.

We created a shape roomy enough to accommodate all five family members, while retaining a sense of togetherness - a bench with a high back and a curved seat that fans out like a sea shell.

The bench comes with two small tables that can de used either as side-tables or as footstools. They partially fit under the seat when not in use.
Dimensions: Seat width 2.57 m/8.43 ft., depth 0.50 m/1.64 ft., height (back) 1.00 m /3.28 ft.
Overall width 3.10 m/10.17 ft.

Material: Natural European Oak.

For sale.

Made in Holland.

PHILOSOPHY OF OUR DESIGNS

We are living in an era in which many products are offered to us as so called black boxes, even as the complexity of these products increases dramatically.

The paradox here is that - partly due to the development of (graphical)user interfaces - the end user is more and more comfortable and at ease with using products, while at the same time is less aware with the real, and often complex mechanisms that lie behind them.
Seen from this perspective, it seems that today’s end-users are increasingly out-of-touch with the products they use.

Our work is about demystification. The most striking element of our designs is that the most important mechanisms and constructions of the products are made visible.
All products of Studio Dirk Ploos van Amstel are designed and made according to this whitebox-approach.
