KEZUROSU, meaning “shaved rose” in English, is a sharpener that brings attention to beauty found in the act of sharpening a pencil. Sometimes, while sharpening a pencil, I observed that as I made long, continuous rotations of the pencil it would create long pencil shavings that would unknowingly curl up into a beautiful spiral, temporarily resembling a flower. However, this “flower” is usually short-lived, collapsing after the pencil shaving gets too long. As such, I decided to create a sharpener whose form is deliberately designed to hold the shavings in place, allowing the shavings to stay in a tight spiral arrangement; this results in a flower formed each time after you sharpen a pencil. In fact, the more you sharpen, the tighter the layers in the spiral become; just like the many dense layers of petals found in a rose flower.

Inspired by the layers of petals within a rose flower, KEZUROSU plays on the observation of a flower-like form of the shavings that results from sharpening a pencil. The more you sharpen, the tighter the layers in the spiral become; just like the many dense layers of petals found in a rose flower.
