This was my second semester Spacial Dynamics final. I was asked to design and construct a fully functional musical instrument and use a unique type of joinery. In the harp I designed, I used bridel joinery and devided the mahagony wood to 5 different blocks of sections depending on their grain direction. To minimize the tension created by the strings, I arranged the blocks in a way that distributed the tension equally to the overall structure and combined the pieces with bridel joints. Afterwards I carved the wood to give it an organic shape and created a soundbox for the notes to vibrate as much as possible to make the instrument sound louder. It was finished with 3 layers of danish oil with steel wool.
