KURV is a concept of modern transportation seeking to re-visualize the landscape of current bike trends. Our research assess the playing field of current designs and metrics to analyze what is truly necessary in a modern bike. We wish to make a minimal, but also visually striking fixed gear bike to emphasize the design of the bike. Our goal is not to reinvent the bike mechanically, but instead create a beautiful object that would lure any casual biker to want to ride around the city.

 

Based on the data we gathered, our team concluded that we needed something that was stylish, modern, low-maintenance, thin, light, and minimal. We want to use these features to capture the casual, fun, and young ethos of people today. We achieved these goals through reaction and simplification. Weight savings were possible through the removal of the seat tube and other unessential components. This gives the user an extremely light bike without the price of expensive materials such as fiber composite or rare metals. Our bike is instead made out of inexpensive steel tubing, the same material used in the construction of early bicycles. Kurv’s innovation stems not from material, but from frame geometry and lug-less construction. These two aspects of construction are what allow the bike to be made completely out of 3/4th inch tubing while still maintain structure.
