Argi-lid: Your Personal Coffee Lid

Problem statement

The modern consumerist culture of urban society has seen a proliferating demand for coffee on the go. An increasing number of  office-goers  purchase coffee from cafe's on the way to work or on break from work, rather than from home. As a result, a stagerring 5 billion cups and lids are tossed into landfills every year, since most cups and lids are non-recyclable.
Introducing Argi-lid

Argi-lid is a personal coffee lid the user carries with them everyday to replace the disposible plastic lids that make their coffee mobile. The lids come in different colors, and serve as a warm, intimate and beautiful cap to keep the coffee/tea warm and within the cup. The colors add personality to the dull and mundane coffee cups given out everyday, while also protecting the environment and oceans from plastic wastage.

Disposible coffee cups come in standard sizes, so ensuring a tight fit with all cups is not an issue.
Why porcelain?

As a designer I saw opportunity in designing personal coffee lids by making them out of a quirky, yet warm and earthy material. Ceramic is what our regular mugs are made of too and the ceramic lids seek to serve as a reminder of where the coffee culture stemmed from.

Ceramic (glazed porcelain) is glossy, delicate and beautiful - it warms up with your beverage and enhances the sensual experience of coffee drinking. You need to put your lips on this to experience it.
Warm. Intimate. Trendy.
Glazed ceramic holds just as firm a grasp on paper cups as thin plastic and also preserves the leak proof abilities of the latter.
