At around 2 in the morning of 17 July 1918, the Romanov family was executed by Bolshevik troops in the basement of the Ipatiev House, also known by the locals as The House of Special Purpose
They were held captive for 78 days
They were told they were awaiting trial in Moscow
They were led to the basement under the pretext that they were being moved to their next refuge
They were posed around the room for a photograph they were told was being taken to quell rumors that they had escaped
