TEMPORARY PICTURES

This is an experimental project I wanted to create a game like installation with. The idea is based on the philosophical aspects of photography. I captured faces from close distance, with closed eyes, only with the purpose of accurate documentation. The process of photographing these faces was a lot like creating death or funeral masks, which was a tradition in different cultures and its purpose was always to overcome time and passing, to preserve the facial features of the deceased. I processed the photos to large sheet films, finally placed them front of phosphorescent materials and fired them through with speedlights. The final prints developed on the surface of the phosphorescent materials as captured light. The photographs created this way were temporary and their existence depended on the viewers continuous pursuit. These pictures are deprived of their original purpose, because they can not preserve.
