The Task:
I was asked to create a mobile game for a volley-ball loving friend for his farewell party, organized by a big financial Corp. This is the result of a 10 day GameMaker spree.
Game design:
Take the beloved 8-bit Frogger game. Then update it for a solid mobile experience. Add a bit of customizing, a different story, and voila, you have Crossing Gregor: help Greg cross the Russian-Kazakhstan border while avoiding deathly volley balls.
Character design:
The style of the character had to visually resemble an 8-bit game, yet the main focus had to fall on facial features, thus, a chibi-styled design was chosen. Based visually on the real volley-ball loving Gregor, the character had to reflect a bit of the personality traits of the person as well. The animation had quick and broad movements (at least, what 8-bit allows to look like broad).
Sketching:
Thanks!
