Photography is used primarily for keeping a record of a specific moment in time, where the photograph itself records the surface of things and in many situations a memory.  The snapshot itself acts as an artifact and in most instances triggers a memory within ones’ mind where they are able to relive that experience thru the platform of the image.  Snapshots are ones’ moments, and show their relationships, friends, and overall lifestyle that they live.  The lifestyle of ones now and today will be very different in the later years, soon to be a forgotten thing of the past.  The everydayness that we cherish now will no longer be and soon these snapshots will be what we look back on to remember.

I am constantly in fear of loosing memories within my mind, snapshots are beyond important and deeply cherished in my life.  I am able to access a memory in my mind thru an image and if the photo is lost, then the memory will be lost deep inside and I may never be able to remember that moment again.  Sometimes what we remember may not actually be accurate or appears to be an altered or damaged memory that we are trying to piece together in our mind.

If the images are what we will be looking back at to remember, overtime they can be lost or damaged, and accumulate dust and dirt and debris by sometimes being placed in storage or forgotten about, packed deep within all the other stuff of ones’ life.  When this happens, the images are harder to view and there of, make it harder to remember that memory from that snapshot we are reminiscing on.  There is a lack of clarity and people’s identities that one used to know clearly become foggy and lost and the memories you once shared become blurred and concealed only allowing us to remember some details, but never its entirety.  This results in a residue of those moments or what is left of the image and what we think we remember or try to remember through these fragmented memories.
