"Show & Tell" - artist statement
Metaphorically, story telling is the theme of this work. The childhood game of "show and tell" sparks my interest. This game is our first lesson in public speaking and presentation. Perhaps even our first lesson on privacy, on sharing, on pride, on humiliation.
Today's social network phenomena takes us far from the childhood version of show and tell. Towards a virtual act of sharing - yet hiding - here we are protected by distance and anonymity. If humiliation be the lesson the scorn comes from afar.
Perhaps the model of the game has changed yet the lessons remain intact.
My multi media projects incorporate; drawing, painting, photographs, found-object,
video and text, to show and tell the viewer about myself - my life, my thoughts and ideals.
These works evolve from contemplating contemporary life and recognizing a rapid loss of elements from within my personal past. Abandoned and then found - various objects, concepts, games, places, poetry presented by my hand.
