collaboration with Mohamed Atia
Using the coding language PureData, Mohamed and I created a program/patch that allowed the viewer to control the volume of a given sound file: the volume of the sound file is as loud as the noises the viewer makes into the microphone. If the viewer doesn't make any sounds, then they'll hear no sound.
The sound files we chose for this piece were two separate narrations: one by Mohamed and one by me. Each of us shared the story of a traumatic experience we had separately gone through.
The viewer can't hear the stories without making noise, but making noise will in turn drown out the story. Because of this, the viewer has to listen carefully to pull out the details.
