This Poster Design is based on a Lao Tzu quote "Mastering others is Strength, Mastering yourself is True Power" to be participated in my local University competition of quote poster by Student Advisory Center of Bina Nusantara University.
Here's the main concept of the design.
The quotes has been selected by Student Advisory Center as committee, the we have to choose 3 quotes at max and 1 quote at min. I choose this Lao Tzu quote because I could relate myself to this quote. I am a taoist myself, so Lao Tzu has been a huge role model of my life since about 7 years old i have been a taoist. The most popular essence of Lao Tzu's doctrine is about balance in life, and it was represented by Yin Yang symbol. So i combine this balance element to this quote as the main concept of the design. Its not easy to distort the text into Yin Yang shape, so i made all of the text manually concepted. I see a pattern about this quote and relate them to the Balance symbol Yin Yang, the two sentence (mastering others...) and (mastering yourself...) have the same pattern, and they have a same word (is). This makes this poster design is so unique and genuine. I have trouble for searching for reference about typography to be transformed or distorted into Yin Yang shape and I think it makes this design to purely came from my head to process the existing elements.
Lately, I redesigned the poster to be in black-white mode for my Graphics Reproduction Methods assignment.

At first, i made it manually with pencil, then tranform it to digital with Adobe Photoshop.
Thankfully it got the first place of the competition.
