Singing with Mom

This series of paintings was made in response to the loss of my mother in October of 2015, as well as my gaining knowledge of and experience with oil paint. I was interested in how oil paint could speak to this impactful event through abstract imagery that is both vague and specific.

Memories that drove this series are those of singing with my mother; we would sing together often. I tried to evoke that spirit of singing and joy in these works, along with the reality of distance and temporary separation.
