One of twelve in a series of Catholic saint icons I created for Pure Country Weavers/Funeral Home Gifts, a company that produces blankets and cap panel inserts for funerals. These icons are primarily for use as clipart on cap inserts, which are panels that are custom made to fit inside the lid of a casket.
These panels are printed on fabric and mounted on board. They are primarily used for funerals, but can also be displayed as art prints. For information on ordering images for funerals or for everyday decorative purposes, please visit www.funeralhomegifts.com.

Saint Rita of Cascia, Italy
(Born Margherita Lotti)
Patron Saint of Abused Wives and Heartbroken Women
1381 - 1457
Beatified: 1626
Canonized by Pope Leo XIII on May 24, 1900
*She is portrayed with a bleeding wound on her forehead, which is understood to indicate a partial stigmata.
The Bees

"This depiction originates from the story of her baptism as an infant. On the day after her baptism, her family noticed a swarm of white bees flying around her as she slept in her crib. However, the bees peacefully entered and exited her mouth without causing her any harm or injury. Instead of being alarmed for her safety, her family was mystified by this sight. According to Butler, this was taken to indicate that the career of the child was to be marked by industry, virtue, and devotion."
