The two long pieces of wood supporting the table top act as stretchers which allow the top surface to move from left to right giving you more space to manipulate the way the piece would be balanced.
The piece can be disassembled making it more mobile.

The photo on the left is another fast jig I made in order to keep the pieces stable enough to drill holes through them.
