Ronnie Floyd's profile

Promise Keepers - Christian Fellowship

As the Senior Pastor at Cross Church in Northwest Arkansas and the current president of the Southern Baptist Convention, Dr. Ronnie Floyd supports a number of inspirational programs. Dr. Floyd has spoken at numerous Christian conferences, including those held by Promise Keepers.

At Promise Keepers’ 1997 event, held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, amid 80-degree heat, Dr. Floyd represented the Southern Baptist movement onstage. The event, called “Stand in the Gap,” drew a crowd of attendees estimated in the range of 500,000 to more than 1 million. The Promise Keepers movement continued to attract tens of thousands to arenas and football stadiums for years afterward.

University of Colorado football coach Bill McCartney established Promise Keepers in the early 1990s as a ministry to men, focused on assisting them in renewing their faith and dedication to God, their families, and an ethical way of life.

At the group’s numerous events over the years, men have assembled to confess personal sins such as failing to meet their families’ needs, turning their backs on God’s Word, and practices such as racism and contributing to division among Christians. After meeting together in fellowship, these men are better equipped to develop godliness within themselves and to effect positive changes in the world.
