Versatility Exhibition an exhibition of new work by artists studying at Southampton Solent University, held in shipping containers, located in Guildhall Square, Southampton from 16th to 20th of April. I have created a site-specific installation withing the shipping containers using a mixture of art materials, such as spray paint, and non-art materials, such as expanding foam and cling film. The original function of the expanding foam is to fill the gap. The cling film is typically used for sealing food items in containers to keep them fresh. So these materials are a solution to a problem. In a similar way, the shipping containers are traditionally made to solve the need for safe storage and transportation, but in this exhibition, they have been transformed into galleries. This mirrors what I am trying to achieve in my own work.
The DIY materials, which I used in my art work, are traditionally made to be invisible and an unnoticed. Through my work I would like to make it visible and have a voice.
