Who is the Messenger? is an alternative digital reading experience to the book, I Am the Messenger.
I Am the Messenger is characterized by author Markus Zusak's bold voice. Many of the sentences are decidedly short and sweet. I chose to highlight this voice by picking out every sentence in the book (not-including dialogue) that was less than five words. Put together, these fragments create their own narrative.
The landing page features the back of 4 playing cards that represent the ace + joker the protagonist receives in the mail. Upon hover, each card reveals a small hint that pokes at the reading experience for that message. The link to the corresponding page is located below the card.
Each section of the book (divided by the 5 messages the protagonist receives in the mail) was designated its own website. The websites were coded using html/css. The design of each website corresponds to how the protagonist received each of his messages.
The message on the physical card is embedded in the corresponding page. It is up to the viewer to seek these out.
