When someone mentions Christian themed art, it probably conjures an image of a highly styled, hyper-realistic, jewel-toned Jesus (Most likely holding a baby lamb).
Throughout my artistic career I have searched for faith inspired artwork that wasn’t ripped straight form a sixth-century tapestry, or an “abstract” splash of colors artistically named “Jesus Amongst the Angles.” I’m not proposing that these things are not valid in there own right, but I want to portray Christian based art in an way that makes people stop, look, and consider their own concepts and perceptions of Christo-centric art.
I want to depict scripture in a way that is visually edgy, modern, and unprecedented. I incorporated the concept of the circle because of its ties in biblical symbolism and because of its unique aesthetic properties. In order to tether my art to the biblical passages they embodied I developed a numeric code. Three numbers in sequence and separated by periods would serve as the viewers coordinates to connect the dots. The system worked like so Book of the Bible. Chapter. Verse. Example (40.15.08= Matthew 15:8)
