Formalist Painting

Introduction

This project that I will be presenting to you was an assignment given to me by one of our professors and I was asked to create a formalist painting; something that is abstract and describes the elements and principles of designs we learned so far throughout our course. To create and design something I liked is to create an abstract painting and what better than this opportunity so I took a pencil started sketching my mind onto a paper. To design different aspects with different properties but when combined becomes one masterpiece is wanted to explore.
Preparation
I wanted to use multi-media; from paints to colored markers and colour pencils. The materials that I required are:
. Acrylic Paints
· Coloured Markers
· Coloured Pencils
· Pencils and Eraser
· Metal Ruler
· A Paper cutter
Stages

These are the thumbnails; rough sketches of how I wanted my artwork to be.First I sketched out different ideas with a pencil.
After that I coloured them with colours that I wanted to see, experimenting which colours would complement each other showing the real texture through colour.
Final Work
Formalist Painting
Conclusion

I am happy with how my final product has turned out and we were supposed to put up a work which included all the elements and principles of design we learnt throughout the semester. Putting our knowledge into action by making a piece that shows a person your potential as a designer.  My artwork shows how different shapes, sizes and colours can combine together to form one masterpiece that looks very well coordinated. It is a complex piece with simple elements coming to form a large piece of artwork. Every shape had details that defined them.
