For this second year typography project, I was given the word, "freedom", and had to represent it visually through type. The inspiration behind my design comes from the idea of the military fighting for people’s “freedom”. More particularly, some countries justify going to war in other nations as a way to “free” the people in those countries from said enemy. Unfortunately, the unintended consequences of going to war are often devastating for local civilians and lead to greater turmoil. The colours I choose for this come from the American flag as they represent the idea of patriotism and freedom.
I had three concept sketches for the poster. There was concept 1 where the planes were flying at an angle, concept 2 where they were flying upwards and concept 3 where the planes were flying downwards. While concept 1 had a unique approach, the type was stacked on one another and was positioned awkwardly. On the other hand, concept 2 flowed well, but concept 3 directed the viewer's eyes better.
