Freedom, Equality, and Justice Poster

This poster was inspired by protestors who took to the streets after pedestrians' violent altercations with authorities made national headlines. I needed to convey the message of protestors on campus that all people should be able to walk freely in public streets without fear of violence. I looked to the historic power fist symbol to capture the feeling of resistance. While sketching its form, I discovered an opportunity to incorporate the pedestrian walk icon into the crease of the thumb and fingers.

My original sketches planned for this poster to have a fist extending from the word 'freedom.' After laying it out in Illustrator, it occured to me that the E could be broken down into an equal sign. As soon as I incorporated a red equal symbol into the word 'freedom,' the words 'equality' and 'justice' naturally followed.
