The goal of this project was to use code to create some form of generative artwork.
My approach was to write a code that translates music into a surface that can be 3D printed. The logic behind the coding was that depending on the hertz frequency of a given moment in a song, it would be assigned a hight that corresponded to it. These heights were then assigned to points on a spiral in Rhino CAD software and lofted together to create the mountainous surface. The surface was then 3D printed in blocks and suspended on a sheet of plexi glass. I projected a video of me painting the spiral at the rate of the point progression to serve as a visual map for the viewers to follow as they listened to the song (Claire De Lune) and observed the piece as it translated it in physical space.
