Bboy World Website Realignment

POINT A: A Problem

Bboy World pitches themselves as a "hub" for all things breakdance related. In reality, their website is sorely lacking in content and purpose. Their news homepage is a meandering, directionless stream of information, with no visual cues or relationship between each stub of text. Their events page is completely void of content altogther. Even worse, the web page for their store, which they are arguably most famous for, seems to have been created by a third-party web template, and looks completely visually and hierarchically different from all the other pages.
POINT B: A Solution

My goal was to create a true "hub" experience for the user. The Bboy World website should essentially serve as a spring board that would constantly bring in new breakdance related information in a variety of media formats. The new website would be fully responsive to accomodate for users who prefer to use their mobile or tablet devices on the go.
News

The main goal for the revamped News page was to create a focused, organized stream of information that allowed the user to access a variety of media. This page should function as a springboard for all things bboy related- even someone who is a complete stranger to the topic can learn everything they need to know through the News page. Furthermore, the tiles that appear through the News page feature information from other pages on the website, allowing the user to manuver through the site without having to strictly adhere to using the navigation.
Events

In the breakdancing world, there are two types of events. There are the huge, world-class competitions, sponsored by multi-million companies like Red Bull or Monster. And then there are the local tournaments, funded and organized by the community. The new Events page helps you to track whatever events are happening in your area. Users can view events happening on a specific date with the calendar, or they can click through a larger list at their leisure.
Store

The goal of the Store page was to firstly bring it in line visually with the rest of the website. It also offers the user an experience not unlike the one they would get at a physical store. Being a huge part of Bboy World's business, the website needs to do a better part at marketing their store. Based off of data gained from the user's previous shopping carts and preferences, the Store page is able to curate content as appropriate to their tastes.
The Process

So we've provided a solution. That's great. But how did we arrive to Point B? As designers, we often want to just show our clients Point B. Look at your shiny new design! But I believe it is crucial to show the design process- how we arrive to the solution. After all, working with a client shouldn't simply be signing a contract and a handshake.
Style Tiles

Style tiles are a great way to give a glimpse to what the final visual style will look like- helping clients pick between multiple concepts without having to make a final decision early on. We end up going with the third Style Tile, because it retains the black and red color palette of the original website, while still making the new revamp look sleek and modern.
