HONORABLE MENTION
The project lives. It is made of simple things. The object is a lit up room where walls are ephemeral. The space is defined by lit up walls/screens made of semi-transparent rice paper mounted on timber frames where shadows of users become a project defining material by texturizing the whole surface. A timber bench is placed in the center of space. Its position generates a path to follow and gives a moment of rest to the visitor who is encouraged to chat with other people. The project is studied to make the most of the designated showroom area but its flexibility allows different combinations, suitable for different situations. We decided to occupy most of the project area so to create a space inside which the visitor could take some time to walk, see and read about Florim’s selected projects undisturbed. A basic module based on the golden ratio rectangle defines the working element which create a light structure easy to mount, dismount and to transport. The golden ratio gives a proportion base to the project which is independent from the surrounding where the artifact will be placed. The project’s modules create a square shaped plan obtained combining three modules on each side and develops itself on two levels. The photographs exhibited are positioned on metal supports that are hold up by the wind bracing system of each module at the first level. The supports at the second level host a sample of the different products used for each project. The materials that define the project are few and are characterized by the fact of being simple, light and reusable.
The main focus is to create a simple to transport and easy to fix architectural frame to enhance Florim’s awarded projects images.
The architectural object is made of twenty-two modules whose dimension is based on the golden ratio rectangle in order to provide a sense of proportion not bounded to the place of installation. The proposed combination of modules occupies most of the project area and is studied to display Florim’s awarded projects. The system based on the combination of modules allows flexibility and the ability of the artifact to be adaptable to any situation. Each module is made of a timber frame 200x124x40cm and a diagonal metal cable wind bracing. A magnetized circular plate is placed at the mid point of wind bracing metal cables. The magnetized plate is to be combined with a metal support of 30x30cm where the photographs or tile samples can be placed. A recessed LED strip is placed on one of the short side of the frame and is connected with a connection in series to the other strips. A rice paper layer is fixed on one side of the module, with a mounting frame hiding the fixing points, creating a translucid effect. The materials used are few, in order to guarantee a clear reading of the architectural structure and a formal simplicity which helps the enhancement of the exposed materials. The project uses simple, light and recyclable materials following the principles of a green eco-friendly attitude combined with budget reality. When these materials are threated and used in the correct way, we are able to give a sophisticated and contemporary overall look to the final product.
The modules are combined together so to form a square plan of three modules on each side. The modules are mounted on two levels forming a parallelepipedon of 381x381x400cm. Modules forming each side are securely fastened one to the other by screws. Each side is mechanically connected to the others through L shaped brackets fastened to the timber frame of each module. The ceiling is created by metal cables that provide additional wind bracing to the entire structure. A pure volume made of timber creates a seating area and defines a path to follow during the photography exhibition.
