Um Café: A Portuguese Cafe

This was a café concept I designed from the one month I spent traveling Portugal. Despite the incredible architectural structures that clutter the countries landscape, I was most inspired by the Portuguese life style. 'Flow' was the word that spoke to me; it described the way that despite whatever schedule you may have or agenda you try to keep, everyone seemed to weave in and weave out of cafes, shops, bars whatever business or event it may be to take the time to breath and enjoy their country. Likewise, I wanted to reflect that effect through my structure. It allows for you to enjoy a cup of espresso inside while being outside. You could be sitting inside the building or on top of the main building at the bar upstairs. You could also be outside covered by an immense canopy for the feeling of being outside yet being offered the protection of the indoors and vice versa. I designed it to reflect that sensation of flow interweaving the inside and outdoor areas just as leisure and tight schedules interweaved in Portugal allowing the day to flow gracefully from beginning to end.
