Kitchen Space Extension

Brief

Our brief consisted of creating a design as part of a competition in collaboration with Fino Ltd (Malta) and Veneta Cucine. We were asked to look at the world of kitchens from an alternative perspective: the extension and experience, leading to the design of a series of new products which can be used in the kitchen and its connecting spaces, allowing for the combination of indoor and outdoor space interaction. This new challenge offers one the possibility to develop concepts looking at the kitchen daily life from a contemporary perspective.

In my design I wanted to look at extension of spaces by creating a seperator which have multiple uses. It can be as extra storage, seating, bar area/ wine rack, bottom trays (which can be extended 100%) can be ideal for indoor kitchen gardening and a place where one can put his shopping bags. Materials that were chosen are quite minamilistic, having aluminium for the outer frame, laminated wood sheets for the cabinetry and solid wooden beams for the seating section. The design was called Nido (which means nest in Italian and sometimes even used to refer to one's home). The logo also suggests that the product is sustainable.
