Being one with a place is something I never really felt until I became a part of Skogfjorden Norwegian Language camp. Feeling as if you belong somewhere is the one of the most important experiences one can have in life. Once you step foot in this community you instantly feel the connection; the connection to each other, to nature, and to the Norwegian experience they offer. This interaction of different people coming together from all over the United States and even Internationally to create one specific experience each summer in one particular environment, is something that is so very inspiring to me.
These ideas led me to thinking of each special location inside the camp and how we grow and change inside these tangible spaces. The imagery of Norwegian traditional "Rosemåling" is an art of swirling tree branch-like patterns. These specific patterns and colors are particular to each region of Norway. Inside the camp there are different Rosemåling patterns located in different areas, reminding me of the joining together of traditions and people in this special little community hidden in the Northern Minnesota woods.
