Inspiration
Our group drew inspiration from cantilever structures and home rack designs. The angular, squarish structure provides stability while the asymmetrical arrangement gives it sense of movement and asymmetrical balance.

Function
This CD/DVD rack can store disc casing of various sizes as it has an open design with only two walls on each level. It can be positioned vertically or horizontally depending on personal preferences. It can also be used to store small size books or used as a structure support for vine plants.

Production (trails & errors)
We started by making small blocks of wood and respective joints. However some joints were not chiselled correctly and the placement was off, especially for the wood blocks that needed to be connected to three layers of rack. We remade the blocks with more accurate measurements.

Originality or uniqueness
It can be seen that the rack is asymmetrical and that the middle layers are identical from different orientations, which is similar to creating patterns with rotation and vertical translation.  The cantilever design creates tension and the squarish design gives visual weight while being quite light in mass. The structure also encourages viewers to walk around or turn the rack to observe.
