Evolution of a Creative Process

Back in 2011 I had only just discovered Photoshop as an illustration software, and was enthralled by it. I tried to delve into character development, but found many issues with my anatomy skills, and the creative process for the characters I was making. This image took a few months, solely due to the amount of detail I put into the final product. However, in 2013, after having discovered the creative process of Samwise Didier, I opted to try another image, with the same character.
This is the initial drawing, along with the Black and White stage. For the linework I used a reference image but then added in all the features of the original character. The level of detail is important in the second stage, as it ultimately makes up most of the picture. Most of my time was spent at this stage.
I then went on to the colouring stage. There was a lot to consider at this stage, because the colours of the original didn't really work. I wasn't too keen on adding a lot of blue to the image as I thought this was quite typical of the armoured look, so I opted for purple. Looking back on this I'm not sure there's any form of intimidation from this warrior girl, she seems a little too vibrant to be super dangerous, but it was a fun project, nonetheless.
