Performed the restoration of the dome of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church located in Chicago IL.
The Parish and the Archdiocese of Chicago contracted JSL Masonry Restoration to perform the necessary repairs on the dome to stop an ongoing leak problem, that the dome has had for the last 10 years. In conjunction with KGH Architects out of Chicago, JSL performed the following scope of work: Removed approx. 1,200 pieces of terra cotta that covered the entire dome, once the terra cotta was removed, a large amount of delaminated concrete was exposed. JSL performed 100% of the concrete repairs to the existing shell of the dome. Once all the concrete repairs were complete the dome was coated using the Kemper system. Upon completion of the Kemper system the dome the base of the dome received a new cornice and inlaid gutter system. The dome was then covered using gold colored TiNi stainless steel flat seam roofing panel system to replicate the look of the original terra cotta tiles. The project was successfully completed in late Aug. of 2012
