"Colors of the times we have spent together"

"Colors of the times we have spent together" is a data visualization created with data mined through facebook. The information and images used as reference were selected from a larger collection of images taken over a period of six and a half years. After downloading them all images were brought into a color matching/swatching processor called Adobe Kuler.

Using Adobe Kuler I sampled colors from images of times my significant other and I have spent together. The sampled colors are representative of the photographs but do not tell our story through graphic illustration but rather through color layers that when combined amount to something - which is functioning in both a scientific sense and a symbolic sense. Such as the process of building a relationship the layers of colors sometimes coordinate and sometimes do not.

This project which has a swatch book appearance is meant to be handled and sorted through. Each swatch is printed on acetate in order to allow for the color mixing/layering to occur. While looking through the book the viewer has the option to look at all the pages overlaid (the culmination of colors and the relationship/story) or to pull out a single moment and observe it closely. This form came to mind when thinking about how I could formally envision a relationship, it recalls on the way in which I think about and remember my own experiences.
