Tack is a home lighting system designed for modern urbanites. It is designed as a tool around the central concept of flow, enabling users to focus on their activities. Tack is designed to respond to the modern needs of city-dwellers. As more people move into the city, living spaces are shrinking, meaning that one space now has to perform the functions of what previously was two or three spaces. At the same time, millennials are moving from one city to the next much more than previous generations, necessitating furniture that can be easily moved between homes.

Tack is born out of my frustration with existing lights on the market. I recently moved into a new apartment and realized that I was missing a task light. After multiple failed attempts at finding what I needed, I went to the shop and made my first prototype. I was very encouraged by the feedback I got for that first version. At the same time I discovered that Tack could address issues that modern urbanites face. The project became more than just a task light and quickly evolved into the Tack Lighting System.

 

Setting up and removing Tack is a breeze. Forget tools, Tack uses standard 3M command stickers to install the magnetic mounting strip on any wall surface. The whole process takes only seconds and you're on to your next adventure.

 

With the magnetic mounting strip, Tack can be positioned on the wall in different ways to create spaces for work, play or something else altogether. Tack can also live off the wall. Its possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

 

The integrated control is simple - tap to turn it on or off, hold to adjust brightness up or down. Dimming is continuous, ensuring that your space is optimally lit. Tack remembers the brightness you set previously and turns on to that setting.

 

When Tack is turned off, the touch switch glows blue and becomes a nightlight. No more exasperated fumbling in the darkness to switch on the lights. Tack is ready for you when that eureka moment strikes, even during the darkest nights.

 

Space is a luxury for city dwellers. Tack is petite and can live on the wall, freeing up space for your work, activities and the objects that you hold dear.

Tack is shaped by rigorous testing and iteration. All excesses have been trimmed off in that process, revealing a reliable and useful tool for the modern urbanite. It also borrows the visual language of digital tools that we use on a daily basis.
