Project for 2D or Not 2D, a five-week class on three-dimensional illustration.

Our challenge was to create an illustration for a book, using the book itself. I chose a book of Greek Mythology, and turned it into a mask styled after those used in ancient Greek theater. Fragments of the text are visible on the surface of the mask, prompting viewers to think about how they have heard these myths told.

Materials: Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes by Edith Hamilton, paper mache
Mask detail.
