Triggered by the destructive effects of the recent natural disasters all over the world (earthquakes in Taiwan, China, New Zealand and tsunami in Japan), the goal of this project is to create a device that provides all the essentials in case of an emergency.

The challenge here was to fit all the different elements into a small and portable device; a radio, torch, siren, solar power, built in micro-USB cable, and a self-powered crank to produce enough battery to charge your mobile phone. Working closely with the engineers and suppliers from China, we want to make sure that all the little details are executed as how the designer intended.

The design intent was to make the product immediately recognizable as a survival kit in case of an emergency. With the radio function, user can get the latest news regarding the situation and the device's built-in siren attracts attention, meaning that help is never too far away. The product also has to be easy to use with simple graphics.

*comes in two version; solar powered and non-solar powered.
