I am very interested in neighborhoods, where every house looks the same. This is the case where I grew up. We have the option to personalize our home by painting our front door, but it must be one of the three predisposed colors chosen by the association. This relates to the idea of individuality. We are told throughout life to be honest to our true selves, and people will love us. This ultimately is a lie, because yes, we are supposed to be individuals, so long as it falls into social norms, otherwise one would be labeled as different in a negative way. I chose to channel the home improvement aesthetic to pay tribute to my father, who has spent years trying to renovate the interior of our identical house, to individualize it by any sense.
