Leith Intervention

This was a two week project that i undertook during my Bachelors of architecture at Edinburgh. For the project i was given a small green space in the middle of Leith in Edinburgh. The brief for the project was to design a built intervention for the area that would encourage locals to use it, and also create a focal point for the area that people may take interest in that are passing by.
My initial research showed that many of the locals were very interested in the farmers makets and fishing areas around leith and would enjoy being able to have more community 'foodie' events. The farmers markets are very popular in edinburgh and many people then cook the food on bbq's in the meadows.
I therefore propsed a built structure that could be used to host bbqs or various other picnic style events. I also wanted the intervention to draw attention from not only the residents but also visitors to the areas, so as to try and make the design quite striking and sculptural.
These design demands resulted in the harsh precast concrete style that would be very striking.
The design of the sculpture has a large bbq space at one end of it, and then has various tables and seating areas found along it for people to sit at and eat or simply socialise.
i have just shown my hand drawings of the plans and sections found both in site, and without the context, and various 3D renders to show it in an easier way to view.
