NTU Hall 10's theatre group, Hall Productions, adapted a play by Singaporean playwright Haresh Sharma. Lanterns Never Go Out is about a girl trapped by others' expectations.
Lanterns represented the spark and hope she found as a child, and the icon of the play was chosen by the director to be a traditional goldfish lantern popular during mid-autumn festivals.

Final.
Traditional Goldfish Lantern chosen as the recurring element throughout the play.
As the director wanted a simplistic theme for visual, this was a tough prop to translate into minimalist graphic.
To break it down, the direction was to show captive and reality taking her hope away. Experimented with splitting of the fish by a traditional chinese box lantern (representing the society). As the goldfish lantern was seen as "special" among the kids in a scene, I wanted to the contrast of who she is and what society all want/have.
It was decided for the fish to be trapped in instead.
