Swatches hand woven on four-harness floor loom, exploring various weave structures including plain weave, rep weave, twills, tapestry, and pile. Inspiration for color and form was drawn from my home state, Louisiana. While collecting imagery of Louisiana’s native plants and wildlife to use as inspiration, I came across a number of images depicting the aftermath of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon gulf oil spill. I sensed in these images a tension between the catastrophic events they depicted and their aesthetic beauty as photographs. My weavings reflect this tension, themselves being meticulously and lovingly crafted objects that deal with the subject of manmade disaster.
