For my final project of my first semester junior year I invited my classmates into my fort made of found cardboard. I gave them flashlights to see through the dark and I watched them go in and then I watched them come out. What I made was a container for emotional distress, and the recreation of an environment where children gone through trauma could find false safety. I stayed within the fort after I constructed it for 3 days, sleeping in it at night and working on the walls during the day. By the end of the day of critique, I destroyed everything I had made, leaving no evidence of an experience I can never forget, but am not yet ready to face.
