This project was an exploration of weight, and a challenge to myself to create a piece larger than any other previous work. In this project I wanted to create something that was physically heavy but visually light, with the main inspiration being feathers and birds. I made 2 "wings" out of layers of sheet steel, and then added a "tail" to create a third ground contact. The final product could support my body within the "wings", above the ground, with the structure itself only coming into contact with the ground at 3 narrow points. Everything was constructed out of scrap metal, giving the final look a quilt-like appearance.
