This project was for my first semester final at the Rhode Island School of Design my sophomore year. The project was called the Reinnovative Project with the goal of creating a look out of reused or recycled unconventional materials.
For the project I decided to use hibiscus flowers. My concept was based around the process of making 'Agua de Jamaica'. I attempted to reflect the process of making the beverage with making the garment. The flowers were cooked and dried and I as well used some of the liquid to dye areas of the garment. I also crushed the dried flowers as a representation of the sediment left after the beverage is filtered. The overall design is based on watching my mother make the beverage and what she wears in contrast to the beverage itself. I mimicked this in the styling with staining my models hands and lips as if she had made and tasted the beverage.
