Carroll University Anime Club T-Shirt Design

This is a t-shirt design for the Carroll University Anime Club. The contest for designing a t-shirt was coming up for a design that fits the club. This could be any anime character, or a character, or theme from a current anime we watched during the current semester. The colors for the design could only be two colors not including black and white. I created my design in Adobe Illustrator with only needing the pen, pencil, eye drop, selection and direct selection tools. For the type on the front of the shirt I took a font available in Illustrator and changed the anchor points for each individual letter. The color of the type was the same color's I used for the design.

The design I went with is a character our club watched this semester which was Amagi Brilliant Park. I thought a black t-shirt design was the best color for a shirt color for the design to go on. I think the design shows up really well on the black shirt. I designed the t-shirt template in Illustrator just as everything else. I used the same tools as I did for the design. For the front of the shirt I decided to go with "Carroll University Anime Club" and for the back I decided to put the figure on the back. The reason for putting the figure on the back was so that when people walk by, they can see the character waving at you.
Here is an outline of the step by step process I came up with for the design from the main objective and requirements to the starting process of the design, all the way to the finished product.
Main Objective: Create a t-shirt design for the Carroll University Anime Club design contest that relates to the club, or something that involves anime.
Requirements:
Must have at least 1 design for a t-shirt.
The design must only use 2 colors. (Not including black & white.)
The design must work for 2 different colors of t-shirts.
There must be a design on the front and something else on the back. (ex. The title of the club. “Carroll University Anime Club.”)
You must show the process of your design. (Have a process of what it looks like on and off a t-shirt template.)
Goals: Try creating something that you want to make that relates to anime, or the club. You have the choice of making anything of your choosing, as long as it follows the requirements and the main objective. Be creative and think of different ideas and what exactly what you want to do. Make sure to use Adobe Illustrator when making this design. Follow the steps below when making your design. This is your design so have fun with it and be creative.
Steps on Creating Design:
Create your design in Adobe Illustrator.
Have your main design be on one Artboard.
Have the background of where your design is being made be the same colors of what T-shirt color you want it to be.
Your main way of making this design is primarily using the pen, pencil and the direct selection tools.
Have the design when finished be an outline.
Have the outlined design be only 2 colors not counting black and white.
Use an existing type on Illustrator and create an outline on the type you choose.
Take the anchor points on the type and mess around with it to change it as much as you want, but still have it be readable.
Steps on T-Shirt Templates:
After you’re done with your design and type, make a t-shirt template in a separate Illustrator file.
Create 2 T-shirt templates. (2 front sides and 2 backsides.)
Use can either use the pen, pencil and anchor tool, or the shape tool for this part.
Once you have made your templates, make each pair a different color. (ex. 1 front and back be black and the other front and back be white.)
Final Product:
After everything is done, take your design and copy and paste them into your t-shirt template file.
Shrink your 2 different design colors down and fit the main design on the front and the minor, or type on the back.
Have two separate files of for 1 of your colors and another file for your other color.
Once everything is done, make sure that all your files you worked on are all saved to a folder with a label that you will remember. Make sure you also make a JPEG of all your files and especially your final design, because that will be shown during the contest. Remember to always save every so often so you don’t lose all your hard work. Good luck and have fun making your Anime Club T-shirt design!
