For this project, I took old classic literature (dating back to the 1800s and earlier) and redesigned covers to make them fun and readable again. Wayfarer Books is a company that specilizes in classic literature and is geared towards offering books to younger audiences from ages 8-18. The name Wayfarer originates from the thought of a book being a journey. Every page you read in the book takes you step farther in your journey as a traveler or Wayfarer in this case. The challenge of designing these books was to make old boring literature interesting again and to get more kids to read classics. How I accomplished this challenge was by making beautiful cover illustrations to entice the reader into picking up the book and eventually start reading the book. The illustrations act like a gateway to the reader so they can recognize the theme without even reading the brief on the back and just jump right into reading the book.

This book publishing project is most likely my favorite projects to date. In this project I tried out a new illustration style and from it, it made the books come alive in a sense. The painterly strokes in illustrations help to provide a sense of action and depth in the story. The color palette of each book helps reflect the theme and genre of the book. Another reason why I loved this project is because I love books and I have read all three of these fantastic books. The Jungle Book will always hold a special place in my heart, it was one of my favorite movies as a child and became one of my favorite books growing up.
