One of the defining characteristics of Islamic art is its abundant use of geometric patterns to adorn a wide variety of architectural and decorative surfaces.

-The arches and domes are a reckoning part of islamic architecture.They were constructed to contain the decorative or functional elements of the room.These elements create a frame.
-A single unit of tile work has been combined, duplicated and arranged in diverse combinations, thus creating varied patterns. -The use of squares, the simplest being checkerboard effect with, at the least, two alternative colours for contrast.
-The traditional running pattern has been created by drawing a series of interlocking circles.
