Brands, Products, & Companies From Elsewhere

I wanted to do a series here that showcases an interest I had in branding for fictitious companies. (This will be a prevailing theme as time goes on.) These companies come from a place where clever wordplay and brash advertising are the norm, and the product/service that is being sold is more nebulous than concrete.
NACHTFEUER is a petrol company based out of East Germany. They specialize in, well, petrol and other fossil fuel products. Their current CEO, Albert Scheißestein is looking into invest in cleaner energy after accidentally going to a hemp seed convention in Colorado, thinking it was a summit for green energy.

The logo itself is named from a literal translation of "Nightfire". Among friends, this become somewhat of an inside joke as it was a staple map for us in Call of Duty: World At War's multiplayer.
COOLBRO is a multifaceted company that made it's debut selling novelty appliances (like a mini fridge powered by plutonium) and now sells energy drinks, outdoor equipment, and anything that would appeal to the 24-35 male demograph. Conceived as a sponsor to Summerjam's precursor show, Summerfest.

As weird as it sounds, Arial Black was the natural choice for this at the time. It's clean and one of the few sans-serif default fonts I legitimately like. This was an old project so I didn't fix the slight kerning issues, but the general idea still persists
BROBRU is the energy drink cool bros love! Take one swig and feel like you're on top of Mt. Coolbro yourself with half the caffiene of other energy drinks, but twice the stimulants! Now available at all seedy corner stores near you!

I had to make a Coolbro product, so why not an energy drink? BROBRU was born. I was going through a phase ot making cylinder shapes and turning them into beverages. It gave me an excuse to try out different lighting styles and gradients, along with branding and getting into the mindset of making the illusion of the 3D shape. It was a learning process as evidenced by the flat looking top. I still had fun with it. (Full disclosure: I preferred the Broberry flavor.)
Another sponsor at Summefest? Who knew?! Browning's Brownies are a tasty treat with special, (and we emphasize the special) home-made ingredients. Now a subsidiary of Ultra Mega Pizza Company.

This was my attempt at something "wholesome", just like brownies themselves.
Kids love Oaf Rolls, parents just love the fact they're always on sale!

This came from ribbing after a friend of mine told us how much he loved his pizza rolls. Being that his screen handle started with "Oaf", it was only natural to make something out of it. The weird thing is that in hindsight, the color scheme and fonts remind me more of frozen Mexican enchiladas than frozen Italian cuisine.
Slap into a FatPat!

We needed a SlimJim type of sponsor so I went with his more "beefy" cousin, Pat. Aggressive machismo advertising for this one, but it will never hold a candle to the Macho Man himself.
Smell Sharp, Be Sharp. Sharpe Scent body wash has invigorating moisturizers and other undefinable scent technology that will make you smell more au naturale than ever.

I saw my bottle of Old Spice one day and decided to recreate it using different drawn shapes and gradients. I've always liked the branding Old Spice does with their products but I was in a bit of a creative block on what to do with the labelling. It came down to something simple and to the point due to the bottle itself being quite small on an somewhat already small work file.
DjentO's are part of an unbalanced, unorthodox time signatured breakfast!

What can I say? Someone makes mention that math metal band Meshuggah sounds like "MY SUGAR" and I instantly think breakfast cereal. I stressed the 100% Sugar part because the way that they play sounds like someone hopped on sugar (or something else...like BroBru!)
Convict's Beeswax is the all purpose wax to help lubricate dry or sore lips. You can even boil down the contents and make it into a lubricant for your vehicle or for other personal uses. Our beekeepers have been hard at work with our genetically modified bees (GMBs) to produce the best Beeswax on the market today!

So, um, yeah another in-joke gone rogue. This time, I want to draw up a symmetrical bumblebee vector. What to do with the wings was a challenge and I wasn't too too happy with the result.
Chill out with a fruity Bobo Blizzard. Now available in Boboberry & Lime.

I don't recommend cutting out that coupon as it's probably only valid in like 3 counties in the entire U.S. Anyway, I did a lot of readjusting with the font type (going so far as to put each letter on their individual layer to achieve the overcrowded/overlapping effect) and adding some snow on top.
Ultra Mega Pizza Company is the only pizzeria where the term "XXL" is just our interpretation of "Medium".

Again, not responsible for someone using the coupon at their next drunken bender at Papa John's. I wanted to capture a regionally owned franchise that isn't as big as Pizza Hut, but not as small as your mom-n-papa pizza joint. I drew up the pizza mascot without the intention of him looking coy, it just happened. It still has it's charm, just like your favorite local pizzeria. :)
Carpet Juice! Tastes like regular bourbon but with the added zest of carpet cleaner.

I don't know about this one, honestly. Fittingly, someone got drunk one night that wasn't me and proclaimed that Southern Comfort tasted like "Carpet Juice". I think it fits better as a euphemism than a beverage. Anywho, this was my first foray into making borders and layer masking. Nothing too complicated.
Jacob Jeans are made from pure 100% denim....and maybe 10% child labor.

I actually like this one from a learning perspective. I wanted to capture the texture of brand new denim that's never been worn. Then I used the pen tool to scribe up the logo to make it look more in line with "designer" jeans. The stitched HWE logo was a mini-challenge in that I had to orient the dashing to specific degrees to achieve the stitching. Looking at this now, more details and imperfections could of been added but this was a bit of a stepping stone for me.
