The Six Levels of Pain

The prompt for this assignment was the six levels of pain, and I manifested this by creating an installation piece about my dad. From a young age, my father began working in China, so while I was growing up, he was only home for about four months out of the year. I used the six levels of pain prompt to explore the effect this had on me as child through different stages of my life. Each board represents a different timeframe of my life and the nails through the boards express the motif of my dad's constant absence. The threads hanging from the nails denote the weight and magnitude of my father's absence on me during that particular timeframe, exploring how pain lessens overtime and eventually becomes routine.
